  • Context: This painting depicts the first of two dreams that began my journey into what some refer to as “prophetic art”. Prior to this, I was a no-nonsense portrait artist; slowly working my way toward a contract with Portraits, Inc. in NYC. The hope was to someday paint a Vermont governor, a Supreme Court Justice, or maybe a famous opera singer. That was the goal. God’s plans are definitely more interesting.

    June 2020

The Dream: I stood within a lighthouse on a great stone outcropping.  There was a huge waterfall behind me (very like Niagara Falls). As torrential rain continued and the rivers filled, the rush of water became more violent and moved closer to the lighthouse. The roof was leaking badly and the roar outside made the ground tremble. Standing by the back window in the lightkeeper’s house, I witnessed the floodwaters reach the foundation and begin swirling around it. Fear overcame me! No one could survive this kind of power. Worse, I heard the laughter of children within the building! I left the window and entered a small, sparsely furnished kitchen where I came face to face with a tall man. He had golden blond hair down to his shoulders and was preparing for a party by pinning up little banners and stiring the batter for a cake! Thinking of the children, I became furious with his apparent lack of concern. I chided him and declared that, “We must have a plan! If we don’t get help in 15-20 minutes, we will be torn off this rock and die! We need a plan!” The man, cake-batter bowel in hand, looked up at me with surprise and disappointment. Apparently, he thought that it was I who was not handling the situation well! There was also a look in his eye that told me there was a plan - I was just unaware of it. Suddenly, everything went black and the dream ended. As I slowly drifted out of sleep, the ears of my spirit heard the end of Psalm 29:10-11

“The Lord rules over the floodwaters. The Lord reigns as king forever.  The Lord gives his people strength. The Lord blesses them with peace.”

And so began 2020. The rain has been coming down ever since and the rivers are full. The water is at the foundation and we can feel the urgency. But be encouraged! Do NOT be afraid. As our brother, Kim Clement, said, “There is a plan so brilliant that it could only come from God…” Our God is “the God of the floodwaters” and destruction is not our end.

Sometime after painting this image, I heard about a little pink-haired lady named, Kat Kerr, who was always prophesying about eating cake in celebration of the deliverance soon to come. It would appear that she and the man (or angel) in the dream are on the same page.
